Journey to the Mountains and Seas with Youth, Build Responsibility with Language
— Speech by a Freshman Representative of the Business English Major
Respected leaders, dear teachers, and fellow students,
Hello everyone! I am a freshman of the Business English major. Today, with aspirations and enthusiasm, we gather on this fertile land of education to jointly embark on a new chapter in life. It is a great honor to speak on behalf of all freshmen, and I am fully aware of the responsibility on my shoulders.
Autumn brings refreshing breezes and the fragrance of osmanthus. As we step onto the campus, everything we see is vibrant, and everything we hear is hopeful. The clean and bright teaching buildings, the library filled with the scent of books, and the energetic classmates and teachers all fill us with infinite expectations for university life. We look forward to listening to insightful lectures in class, exploring the ocean of knowledge in the library, honing solid skills in practice, and broadening our international perspective through exchanges. This campus is a harbor for dreams to set sail, a cradle for growth and transformation, and a new stage for us to write our youth stories.
As students of Business English, we are fully aware of the mission and value our major carries. In today's world, with the tide of globalization surging forward and Chinese-style modernization advancing with great strides, language is a bridge for communication, and business is a bond for development. We look forward to deepening our language proficiency and achieving fluent and idiomatic English expression; studying business knowledge and mastering core skills in international trade and cross-border cooperation; cultivating an international perspective and embracing the world with an open and inclusive mindset. We are determined to use language as a boat and our major as oars, to ride the tide of Sino-foreign exchanges, to strive bravely in the journey of the times, to tell China's story well with professional abilities, to convey China's voice, and to show the confidence and responsibility of Chinese youth.
As People's Daily once said: "Struggle is the most beautiful background of youth, and action is the most effective whetstone for young people." University is not a comfortable harbor but a battlefield for hard work; it is not the end of learning but the starting point of pursuing dreams. Standing at a new starting point in life, all of us freshmen will surely take dreams as horses and not let down our youth, adhere to the original intention of diligent learning and thoughtful thinking, cherish every moment, and treat every class seriously; uphold a pragmatic and hard-working attitude, actively participate in practical training, and grow our abilities through the unity of knowledge and action; abide by the principles of virtue and goodness, respect teachers, unite with classmates, cultivate noble morals, and temper fine conduct. With the vitality of "youth bears ambition, and the time for fierce endeavor will come," and the resilience of "after a thousand blows and ten thousand grindings, still strong," we will run hard on the track of youth and strive to grow into new-era youth with ideals, responsibility, the ability to endure hardship, and the willingness to struggle.
If the youth prosper, the country prospers; if the youth are strong, the country is strong. We are born in a prosperous era and shoulder heavy responsibilities. Our personal ideals and pursuits are always closely linked to national development and national rejuvenation. As new-era university students, we will integrate personal growth into the tide of the times, rely on the Business English major, base ourselves on China and look at the world, build a solid foundation in learning, enhance abilities in practice, and strive to become interdisciplinary talents with both national sentiment and international vision, contributing youthful wisdom and strength to Sino-foreign economic, trade, and cultural exchanges and to the country's high-quality development.
Finally, I sincerely thank all leaders and teachers for their meticulous care and earnest teachings, and thank all classmates for their companionship and joint progress. May we, in the name of youth, fulfill the promise of the times, cultivate ourselves tirelessly on this campus, and pursue the light, repaying the school, the motherland, and the era with outstanding achievements!
